Accused teens in Lusanda Mathabela’s murder abandon bail

The two teenagers accused of killing 19-year-old Lusanda Mathabela at her home in Mataffin, Mbombela, in Mpumalanga have abandoned their bail application.

Eighteen-year-olds Katlego Mokoena and Lungelo Sithole appeared briefly in the Nelspruit Magistrate’s Court.

They accused of breaking into the home of Mathabela and stabbing her to death on Monday last week.

It is alleged that one of the accused was the ex-boyfriend of the deceased.

Mathabela family spokesperson Ali Sibiya has welcomed the duo’s decision to abandon their bail application.

”I am happy they did that. Them getting bail would have hurt us more and as a family. We would like to make it known that we were not prepared for this, we were not ready for this and these boys having done such a crime, the fact that they are going to be in prison for this long time I think is going to give us peace than seeing them around streets after they have done such a thing.”
