India set 299 target for Proteas

South Africa will have to bat out of their skin to win a maiden ICC World Cup title.

India, who were put into bat, have set the Proteas a victory target of 299 runs in the final of the Women’s Cricket World Cup in Navi Mumbai.

Half-centuries from opener Shafali Verma and Deepti Sharma, helped lift India to 298 for the loss of seven wickets in their 50 overs — the second highest total in a World Cup final.

The hosts also benefitted from some ordinary bowling in the power play and a number of dropped catches.
