South Africa’s Allan Hatherley has become the fourth rider ever to successfully defend his UCI World Mountain Bike Championship title by winning gold at Crans-Montana in Switzerland.
The 24-year-old Durban-born rider dominated the men’s elite race, taking the lead on the second lap.
Hatherley completed the eight laps totaling 35-point-two kilometres in one hour, 30 minutes, and 30 seconds, 48 seconds ahead of Italy’s Simone Avendetto.
Victor Koretzky of France finished third, a further three seconds back. Hatherley also won the bronze medal in the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.
