South African hurdler, Marione Fourie at the World Championships, in Tokyo
South African hurdler, Marione Fourie, has shrugged off the effects of a 10-week injury layoff to advance to the semifinals of the women’s 100 metres hurdles at the World Athletics Championships, in Tokyo.
The 23-year-old finished second in her heat in 12.86 seconds, almost 4 tenths of a second slower than her personal best, but good enough for 4 automatic qualifications.
Middle distance runner, Tshepo Tshite, is also through to the semifinals of the men’s 1500 metres.
He finished 6th in his heat. Tshite’s time of 3 minutes, 36.36 seconds was also the sixth fastest qualifying time overall. The highlight of the evening session on day 2 of the championships in Tokyo is the men’s 100 metres semifinals and final.
Team SA’s, Gift Leotlela who ran the fastest qualifying time in the heats yesterday, clocking a personal best of 9.87 seconds, will run in semifinal 5.
South African sprinters Gift Leotlela and Akani Simbine are in high spirits after winning their respective Men’s 100m heats at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo.
