Bafana Bafana secures their spot in World Cup qualifiers

The South African men’s football team is a step closer to qualifying for next year’s FIFA World Cup in the Americas. Bafana Bafana retained their five-point lead over second-placed Benin in Group C following a 3-0 victory over Lesotho in Bloemfontein tonight.

Mohau Nkota was first on the scoresheet for Bafana after just 15 minutes, while Lyle Foster and Oswin Appollis sealed the win with goals just after the hour mark and within four minutes of each other. The match was an away fixture for Bafana.

Benin beat Zimbabwe 1-0 in Ivory Coast in this evening’s other Group C match.

Rwanda and Nigeria, who are third and fourth in Pool C, respectively, clash in Uyo tomorrow.

Bafana’s next match is on Tuesday against Nigeria’s Super Eagles, also in Bloemfontein.
