Four-time Grand Slam champion Naomi Osaka of Japan broke American hearts with a crushing victory over third seed Coco Gauff in the fourth round of the US Open tennis tournament in New York.
Osaka, who was world number one for 25 weeks in 2019, but is seeded 23rd at Flushing Meadows, recorded a straight forward 6-3, 6-2 victory to advance to the quarterfinals. She’ll play 11th seed Karolina Muchova of Czechia next.
Second seed, Iga Swiatek of Poland, also had an easy fourth-round victory. She beat Russian 13th seed, Ekaterina Alexandrova 6-3, 6-1.
Meanwhile, men’s world number one, Jannik Sinner, became the youngest player in the Open Era to reach the quarterfinals of all four Grand Slams in consecutive seasons. The 24-year-old Italian thrashed Kazakhstan’s Alexander Bublik in an hour and 21 minutes, the score 6-1, 6-1, 6-1.
