Away fixtures await League domestic giants this weekend

Log leaders in the Betway Premiership, Sekhukhune United, will want to build on their strong start to the season when they face Durban City at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane on Saturday.

While Sekhukhune will look to make home ground advantage count, Kaizer Chiefs, who are level on points, will need to produce a win away from home when they face Golden Arrows at the Moses Mabhida Stadium.

There are also tricky away fixtures for Mamelodi Sundowns against Stellenbosch FC, and Orlando Pirates against Chippa United in Gqeberha.

Mamelodi Sundowns go to Stellenbosch FC off the back of a nil-nil draw with Kaizer Chiefs on Wednesday night. It was a second draw in the new season for the defending champions, and halted a two-match winning streak in the league.

Sundowns coach Miguel Cardoso was happy that his side could recover from the heartache of being knocked out of the MTN 8 Cup by Orlando Pirates over the weekend and wants his side to grow from the hard-fought draw to Chiefs.

“Obviously we want to win every match but we need to understand every moment and I think the team understood it i am pretty happy with the way the boys understood the game it is from here that we want to gro from here we need to be more consistent throughout all the game I think that emotionality in the last twenty minutes also took us a little bit too much maybe from the pressure from the last match and we suffer those in the end of the last two matches but I am happy with the boys and lets keep it going,” says Cardoso.

Meanwhile, Kaizer Chiefs face a tricky away encounter against Lamontville Golden Arrows. The Amakhosi are unbeaten in the league, although the midweek draw to Sundowns did curtail a winning run of three matches in a row.

Coach Nasreddine Nabi, speaking through an interpreter, vows to keep his side on their upward trajectory.

“It is a little bit of frustration because we believe that we did enough effort to get three points esepcially in the second half we had opportunities we could not convert we would have loved to give to those amazing fans the three points but unfortunately we didn’t but we are going to work hard and we are pretty sure we are going in the right way,” says Nabi.

Orlando Pirates are also away this weekend. They face Chippa United on Sunday. The Buccanneers are buoyed by a Cup semi-final win over Sundowns on the weekend and a midweek victory over Orbit College.

The Ghosts are continuing to recover after two losses to start the season, as their coach, Abdeslam Ouaddou, stresses that there are no small teams in the PSL.

“It is not easy to play after such a big game gainst mamelodi sundowns we need to go to find some resources it was not easy we saw that in the first half we were a bit tired and we made some changes but I have to congratulate this team of orbit as well I told you that it will not be easy because they have this dynamic of being promoted to the PSL so it was not easy we know that in the PSL now there is not small teams.”

No small teams, and no easy fixtures for the domestic giants, who are all away this weekend.
