The coffin of the four-year-old girl from Eldorado Park who passed away just over a week ago
Johannesburg ward councillor Juwairiya Kaldine says the death of the four-year-old girl from Eldorado Park has left a deep void in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
She was speaking to mourners at the funeral service of the child under way at the Don Mateman Hall in Eldorado Park, south of Johannesburg.
The child died after being physically and sexually assaulted, allegedly by her father.
Her father is facing multiple charges, including murder, rape, assault and child abuse.
Her mother, who initially opened a case, now also faces charges of murder and failing to report sexual offences against her child.
Kaldine says the incident has left the community with a lot of questions.
“Today is not an easy day, a day filled with heavy hearts because a four-year-old was taken by the hands of her father. So many of us sit here with heavy hearts and still have questions that we will never fully understand, yet in the midst of our grief, we stand together as a family but most importantly as a community.”
Crisis in SA
ActionSA leader Herman Mashaba says the child’s death reflects the broader crisis facing South Africa.
Mashaba has lamented what he called the lack of leadership in the country.
“We are now reaching a stage where we’re using our loved ones and young ones where the lives of young people are cut short because of the dysfunctional state of our country. We live in a country where we lack leadership, we lack ethical leadership that can show us the way and the right way we’veve opened our borders for international drugs syndicate to come and destroy our way of life.”
Meanwhile, the child’s aunt has urged the community to stop crucifying the child’s mother, despite the criminal charges she faces.
