The Eastern Cape Transport Department has advised motorists using the N2 between Mthatha and Dutywa to expect delays as the road is closed due to a protest.
Provincial Transport Spokesperson Unathi Binqose says the residents are protesting over water challenges in the area.
Binqose says that relevant authorities are on the scene to calm protesters and reopen the road.
“We wish to warn road users about this protest, which has affected the flow of traffic on the N2. It’s one of those protests that have very little to do with the roads, but they have decided to target the road to express their anger. Officers are on the ground working so hard to diffuse the protest and get the traffic flowing again.”
