Search still underway for missing pilot after Durban plane crash

The search for the missing 61-year-old pilot continues. The pilot went missing after his light aircraft plunged into the ocean at Suncoast Beach in Durban during an airshow on Thursday.

He was performing his final display when he appeared to have lost control of the aircraft. The aerial display was part of the Next Generation of Aviation Professionals Summit that was being held in Durban.

The search was temporarily called off on Friday due to overcast conditions. Police spokesperson Robert Netshiunda says emergency services are conducting the search.

“Police search and rescue teams working together with other entities, both from the government and private sector, are continuing with the search for the missing pilot whose light aircraft crashed into the Suncoast Beach on Thursday afternoon. Police have also sourced the services of the side scan sonar to assist in the search.”
