Among the largest contributors in the rise in trade sales are retailers in textiles, clothing, footwear and leather goods.
Stats SA says retail trade sales increased by 1.6% year-on-year in June. This is a slight increase compared to 4.3% the previous month.
The largest contributors to this increase were retailers in textiles, clothing, footwear and leather goods as well as hardware, paint and glass.
On a month-on-month basis, retail sales were flat in June compared with May 2025. This followed month-on-month changes of 0.2% in May and 1.1% in April.
Retail trade sales increased by 3.7% in the second quarter of 2025 compared with the second quarter of 2024.
The largest positive contributors to this increase were retailers in textiles, clothing, footwear and leather goods and general dealers.
