Traditional healer accused of ritual murder to appear in court

A traditional healer from Mozambique suspected to be in the country illegally is today set to appear before the Ga-Rankuwa Magistrate’s Court, north of Pretoria.

The suspect faces charges of kidnapping, defiling a corpse as well as contravening the Immigration Act.

During his arrest on Wednesday in Winterveld, he was found in possession of human remains believed to be that of 20-year-old Gontse Makhubela, who was murdered in 2023.

The young woman was allegedly lured by another man, Serame Moroke, allegedly on the instruction of the traditional healer, to be killed for ritual purposes.

Makhubela was establishing her post matric life when she was brutally murdered.

She was working as an intern at a furniture shop when her assailants posing as potential clients lured her to her death.

29-year-old Moroke and his 38-year-old co-accused Samuel Mlambo have since appeared in the Brits Magistrates’ Court after they were found in possession of the deceased’s cell phone which led to North West Police being able to crack the case.
