The European Court of Human Rights has reignited Caster Semenya’s long legal battle against sport authorities over sex eligibility rules and regulations.
This follows its ruling in favour of Semenya.
This after finding that Switzerland had violated her right to freedom from discrimination, taken together with her rights to respect for private life and earn a living through sport. The Swiss government was the respondent.
In 2023, it appealed a ruling requesting the case be referred to the European Court of Human Rights Grand Chamber.
The Grand Chamber’s ruling is final within its system.
