Orlando Pirates have revived their ambition to challenge for league honours this season.

Pirates beat Sundowns 2-1 in the Betway Premiership fixture played at the FNB Stadium earlier this afternoon.

Bucs, who are still four games behind Sundowns, have now reduced the gap at the top to 15 points. Pirates had a dream start with youngster Relebohile Mofokeng scoring an early goal for the hosts in the fourth minute after a good pass by Evidence Makgopa.

The 20-year old Mofokeng grabbed his brace a minute later after a defensive blunder.

Khuliso Mudau reduced the deficit after making it 2-1 in the 66th minute. Pirates made three changes late in the second half introducing Boitumelo Radiopane, Mohau Nkota and Goodman Mosele.

Despite the pressure from Sundowns, Pirates managed to hold on for a famous win.

Meanwhile, Richards Bay climbed to 11th spot on the log standings, after beating struggling Kaizer Chiefs 2-nil at the King Zwelithini Stadium in Durban.

The loss leaves Chiefs 8th on the log.
