Undocumented migrants arrested in Ekurhuleni

Many undocumented migrants were arrested in Vosloorus, Ekurhuleni.

Several businesses, mostly spaza shops and supermarkets, have also been issued with notices for non-compliance. This follows a Spaza Shop Compliance blitz, some businesses owners have been found to be operating with expired licenses.

The operation is in response to the ongoing impasse between South Africans and undocumented migrants in the country.

City of Ekurhuleni mayor Nkosindiphile Xhakaza is leading the operation and says, “Just now we did a big closure of a supermarket. And we realized some of people in there don’t have documentation. We made some of the arrests but also the structure is not right. We have our officers who ensure that all our structures are compliant. It’s important that where you are you’re correctly zoned.”
