Suspended CFO Mnisi rejects claims of using Sgt Nkosi as intermediary

Suspended Tshwane Chief Financial Officer Gareth Mnisi has rejected Advocate Matthew Chaskalson’s assertion that he used Sergeant Fannie Nkosi as an intermediary to communicate with suspended Tshwane Deputy Police Chief Umashi Dhlamini due to alleged involvement in illegal activities.

Mnisi has been accused of alleged tender manipulation at the City of Tshwane

Chaskalson put it to Mnisi that he relied on Nkosi to relay messages to avoid leaving a communication trail between himself and Dhlamini.

Mnisi, who has been on the witness stand for four days, has now concluded his testimony before the Commission.

“I strongly disagree with the notion that we’re engaged in illicit or illegal activities that are unlawful and the major difference is that there is trace of communication directly between myself and Deputy Chief Dhlamini. There’s significant evidence to that we did break the chain, because I did realise the hindsight error of allowing Sgt. Nkosi to involve himself initially. So, I strongly disagree with you, with respect, SC.”

Mnisi will return to the stand for re-examination on a date to be announced by the Commission.
