Hijacked vehicle
One suspect has been killed and five others arrested following a shootout with police on the corner of the N12 and Xavier Road in Winchester hills, south of Johannesburg.
This after a bakkie was hijacked in Germiston and the driver kidnapped and forced to accompany the suspects.
Gauteng police spokesperson Tintswalo Sibeko says during the interception, two suspects fled into nearby bushes and opened fire at officers, resulting in the shootout.
“One suspect was fatally wounded at the scene. The victim was rescued unharmed. Police recovered an unlicensed firearm with ammunition and the hijacked Isuzu bakkie. Three additional vehicles, a Mitsubishi SUV, a VW Polo, and a Volvo allegedly used by the suspects were also seized. Cases of attempted murder, possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition, possession of a hijacked motor vehicle, carjacking, and kidnapping have been opened.”
