Street Store celebrates 11 years of goodwill

More than three thousand homeless and vulnerable individuals have received clothing and essential items as part of the Street Store initiative.

This year’s initiative was held in Hamilton, Heidedal and Lourierpark in Bloemfontein.

Coordinator of Street Store, Marésa van der Walt, says the organisation collects items throughout the year with the help of some churches.

“Street Store is a place where people’s dignity is restored. You can come here and get clothing and food, children get toys and women between the ages of 13-30 get sanitary towels. We just want to celebrate the fact that even though it is an international movement, Bloemfontein is the only place in the world where it has taken place eleven times in a row”.

Thousands of vulnerable people in Bloemfontein continue to benefit from the initiative.

For more than 10 years, the Street Store, in collaboration with local churches and organisations, has been donating clothes, essential items and food parcels to various parts of the city.

Pastor and Site captain of Street Store, Janro Oelofse, says they assisted people in Heidedal, Hamilton and Lourierpark.

“We also have partners like Childline and Kingdom Vision. We want to help them make appointments for eyecare, but it’s all about connecting with the people.”
