File: Gloomy weather.
Authorities in the Western Cape are bracing for further severe weather conditions as a second cold front is expected to bring more rain, flooding and strong winds on Sunday evening.
Joint operations centres have been activated from local to provincial level following warnings issued by the South African Weather Service (SAWS).
Provincial Disaster Management Centre spokesperson, Sonja Chinnian says search and rescue teams have been pre-positioned, while Eskom rapid response units remain on standby as officials continue monitoring roads and mountain passes.
“This is a coordinated proactive response but where the impacts can escalate quickly. We ask the public to stay informed through official channels, plan ahead and place safety first. Our teams remain on full alert for rapid response as conditions develop.”
