A prominent Mpumalanga taxi boss and two co-accused are expected to appear before the Kwaggafontein Magistrate’s Court in Mpumalanga on Wednesday morning on charges of extortion.
The trio, aged between 46 and 60, were arrested in Gauteng and Mpumalanga in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
Provincial police spokesperson Mavela Masondo says the arrests are linked to an extortion case reported in Kwaggafontein last year, where it is alleged the suspects extorted money from a businessman.
Masondo says authorities are still searching for a fourth suspect linked to the case.
“One suspect remains outstanding. At this stage, the police cannot rule out the possibilities of adding more charges against the arrested suspects, in relation to other cases, as the investigation continues,” adds Masondo. -Reporting by Nonhlanhla Ntshingila
