SAWS has warned of an approaching cold front which will be accompanied by wet and windy conditions from Friday to Monday
The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has warned of an approaching cold front which will be accompanied by wet and windy conditions and expected to affect large parts of the country from Friday until Monday.
This will result in a significant drop in temperatures as the system moves eastward.
Coastal regions are likely to experience rough seas with wave heights of up to five metres, while inland areas may face localised flooding and hazardous travel conditions.
Forecaster, Tokelo Chiloane says people across the country should expect scattered showers and thundershowers.
“The cold conditions will spread into the central and eastern parts of the country, including Gauteng, Free State, Northwest, Mpumalanga and KwaZulu-Natal, where scattered showers and thundershowers are also expected. By Sunday, conditions will reach the eastern and southern coast with rough seas and wave heights of four metres to five metres which may disrupt coastal activities. Temperatures will drop significantly in some areas, especially over high-lying regions with strong winds making it feel even colder. Impacts may include localised flooding, slippery roads, reduced visibility.”
