The state and defence in the Senzo Meyiwa murder trial have agreed that one of the accused, Bongani Ntanzi, can be cross-examined on the confession statements.
Both parties were expected to submit their heads of arguments in the High Court in Pretoria on the admissibility of the alleged confession.
Ntanzi allegedly made two confession statements following his arrest in June 2020.
He and four other men are on trial for the killing of the former Bafana Bafana captain in October 2014.
State Prosecutor George Baloyi says both parties are on the same page.
“We had consultations amongst ourselves; this is now the state and the defence. And this is one of the rare cases where the state and the defence are in agreement that it is not necessary to file heads of arguments in light of the fact that the defence concedes that the state is entitled to cross examine the accused on the confession.”
