Northern Cape residents and motorists have been urged to exercise extreme caution amid severe thunderstorms and heavy rainfall.
Police say the severe weather poses serious risks, particularly to vulnerable groups such as children, the elderly and persons with disabilities.
Communities are advised to avoid flooded areas and remain vigilant at all times.
βIn light of these developments, the South African Police Service in the Northern Cape urges all communities to exercise heightened caution and adhere to the following safety guidelines during inclement weather, particular care should be taken to safeguard the elderly, persons with disabilities and children during dangerous conditions. Monitor the rising water levels and evacuate to a safer place or higher ground. Avoid crossing low-lying bridges, streams and rivers. Do not try to drive over a low water bridge if water is flowing strongly,β says police spokesperson, Cherelle Ehlers.
