North West Safety Dept concerned about Klerksdorp crime surge

The Department of Community Safety in the North West province says they are worried about the high crime rate in the Klerksdorp area.

This comes after four people were shot and killed at a tavern in Kanana on Saturday evening.

Among them was a 15-year-old girl who was a passerby.

Reportedly, three unidentified men armed with rifles and with their faces covered were responsible for the attack.

MEC for community safety, Wessels Morweng, says, “Saddening about the circumstances is that it also involved a 15-year-old girl who was a passerby in the street who unfortunately was hit by these thugs, something that is very painful to witness. The area of Klerksdorp or the area of Dr Kenneth Kaunda is worrisome, issues of GBV, issues of shootings, a very real problem in this area. We are working hand in glove with the SAPS to see to it that something out of the ordinary must be done about restoring the situation in this area.”
