The case of nine people accused of the murder of Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) part-time lecturer Sifundo Madasi in Soshanguve, north of Pretoria, is set to resume in the Soshanguve Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday morning.
The group, which faces a charge of murder, allegedly attacked and killed Madasi in February following accusations that he had sexually assaulted two minors.
However, all nine accused were granted bail of R2 000 each under strict conditions, including that they must not make contact with any state witnesses.
Despite the State opposing bail over the seriousness of the case and fears of witness intimidation, the court ruled that exceptional circumstances justified granting the accused bail. The court postponed the matter for further investigation.
