Newborn killed, two drivers critically injured in Folweni crash

A baby believed to be less than a month old has been killed in a collision between two vehicles on the M35 in Folweni, south of Durban.

The drivers of both vehicles were critically injured and taken to the hospital following the crash, which happened on Sunday night.

Garrith Jamieson, a paramedic from a private company, says that whilst Paramedics worked to stabilise the two drivers, a male and a female, firefighters used the Jaws of Life and other hydraulic equipment to cut them free.

“Once freed from the wreckage, the two were carefully extricated before being loaded into awaiting Ambulances. Unfortunately, paramedics found a baby believed to be less than a month old had also been involved in the collision and suffered major fatal injuries, and unfortunately, was declared deceased on the scene by Paramedics,” he says.
