Lesufi denies requesting dockets for engineer Armand Swart’s murder

Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi has denied requesting police dockets, including the one for the murder of Vereeniging engineer Armand Swart.

Lesufi has described suspended Sedibeng District Police Commissioner’s testimony before the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry as misleading.

Mbangwa Nkhwashu testified that Gauteng Police Commissioner, Tommy Mthombeni, had directed him to collect all the dockets with warrants of arrest.

According to Nkhwashu, the original order came from Lesufi.

The premier’s spokesperson Sizwe Pamla says Lesufi respects the work of the South African Police Service (SAPS).

“Premier Lesufi reaffirmed his respect for SAPS’ independence and challenged the brigadier-in-chief to provide written proof to support his allegations. He stated that he only receives routine crime prevention briefings, such as the eyes and ears programme, from SAPS and is not involved in operational matters.”
