Leshabane denies instructing Zungu to keep silent about threats

Retired senior South African Police Service (SAPS) Commander Vincent Leshabane has denied claims by state witness Constable Sizwe Zungu that he instructed him to remain silent about threats against his life in relation to the Senzo Meyiwa murder case.

Earlier in the trial, Zungu testified in the murder trial at the High Court in Pretoria that Leshabane, who was his cluster commander at the time, warned him not to discuss the case and that doing so would put his life in danger.

Zungu says he reported the attempt on his life to Leshabane.

However, Leshabane has denied instructing Zungu to keep quiet.

“I’ve never said that my lord, he knows that he was the one who came to me, there’s no way my lord, I can say you must never work with those people. My lord, lastly, those names he’s saying, I don’t know them, and the last time I saw Muzi, I saw him on my last day at office and I don’t know his relatives and I’m shocked to hear this.”
