Ladysmith Black Mambazo pays tribute to co-founder Albert Mazibuko.
The memorial service of internationally acclaimed musical group Ladysmith Black Mambazo co-founder, Albert Mazibuko, is underway in Durban. Mazibuko passed away on Easter Sunday at the age of 77.
After a career starting in 1969 and spanning more than five decades, he retired from the group last year.
Mazibuko was regarded as the last surviving founding member alongside the late lead singer, Joseph Shabalala.
Addressing mourners at the service, the group’s retired member, Inos Phungula, shared fond memories of his departed friend.
“Mazibuko taught me to be patient, and he was always supporting me during rehearsals, especially when Shabalala was leading the group. I learnt many things from him socially, but I am happy now because the group is still recognised and he was able to fulfil all the dreams of the group.”
