Suspended EMPD Deputy chief Julius Mkhwanazi
Commissioner Sandile Khumalo has put it to suspended EMPD Deputy Chief Julius Mkhwanazi that he tasked officers, Keisha Leigh Stols and Aiden McKenzie, to go and commit an armed robbery involving precious stones.
Allegations before the Madlanga Commission suggest that Mkhwanazi had concocted a story about an alleged police operation that his officers were taking part in, which involved the theft of gem stones from a man in Rosebank, Gauteng.
Khumalo put it to Mkhwanazi that no paperwork was presented about the alleged operation thus pointing to the fact that it was a robbery.
“Because if there’s no criminal complaint and you go to somebody’s house and you confiscate rocks and there’s no paper, there’s no record of where those rocks are, what happened to them, then it’s an armed robbery to me. You know, Commissioner, to answer you, after I’ve read the statement and they’ve said they’ve handed over evidence and the documents, I think the investigations will lead us to something, you see.”
