The Gardee family has opened a case of defeating the ends of justice against the police officers accused of interfering with their daughter’s murder case.
On Sunday, the suspended Mpumalanga Police Commissioner, Daphney Manamela, alleged that some police officers manipulated the investigations of certain cases to protect perpetrators.
The Gardee family spokesperson Collen Sedibe says they want justice in this matter.
“We are relying on the suspended provincial commissioner’s information. That’s why I was saying she will tell a lot. And other implicated people will also have their time to say something, including the Investigating Officer, Mr Mkhaliphi, who initially was given the case to investigate. But there was a tug-of-war about the docket. Other police wanted the docket. As to why, we don’t know. But that makes us suspicious that indeed there was something wrong. And we suspect that some police knew immediately after the murder of our daughter, but they hid the information for their own benefit,” he adds.
