Family of slain Emfuleni accountant welcome PKTT probe

The family of the slain accountant of the Emfuleni Local Municipality in Gauteng had expressed relief that the SAPS Political Killings Task Team has taken over the case for investigation.

Martha Rantsofu was shot execution style while at a tyre shop in Vanderbijlpark last month.

Reports suggest that she had identified incidents of corruption and fraud.

The deceased’s brother, Tefo Rantsofu, says they learned after her killing that she had opened a case of intimidation with the Hawks.

“You know, for the first time when I heard about intimidation, it was after the incident when I was at Vanderbijlpark SAPS, where the investigative officer was telling me that the murder was to link with the case that she laid at the Hawks.”

“Our local officers at home are at [in] the pockets of these mafias that are running the municipalities sometimes. Seeing PKTT taking over this case brought some sense of relief. We could even felt [feel] that there will be a breakthrough in this.”
