Police have confirmed that no one was injured following an explosion at one of the stores at Menlyn Mall, east of Pretoria in the early hours of Thursday morning. It is alleged that an unknown explosive device detonated on one of the store shelves.
Damage sustained was limited to food items and shelving inside the store.
“The South African Police Service in Tshwane is investigating an explosion incident reported at a Woolworths store at Menlyn Mall during the early hours of Thursday morning, 28th of May. Preliminary information indicates that an unknown device detonated inside the store at approximately 01:00 am in the morning. Five packers were on duty at the time and fortunately no injuries were reported. Specialised SAPS units are processing the scene and a case under the Explosives Act has been registered. Police investigations continue,” says police spokesperson, Johan van Dyk.
