Court dismisses Fannie Nkosi’s bail appeal

Suspended SAPS Organised Crime Unit Sergeant Fannie Nkosi’s bail appeal has been dismissed by the High Court in Pretoria.

Nkosi was appealing a ruling by the Pretoria North Magistrate’s Court denying him bail.

He faces charges including theft, defeating the ends of justice and the unlawful possession of ammunition and explosives.

Judge Mokhine Mosopa has found that the magistrate at the lower court applied the law correctly.

“I see no need to interfere with the judgment of the bail court, as the magistrate did not exercise her discretion wrongly. This appeal ought not to succeed. I make the following order.  The appeal against the Pretoria North Magistrate’s Court refusal to grant bail is hereby refused,” said Judge Mosopa.

Nkosi is also alleged to have tampered with evidence where a suspect was arrested for having dagga, explosives and unlicenced firearms in 2022.

He has been in custody since April.
