Durban Serious Organised Crime Investigation Unit (DPCI) member Colonel Gavin Jacob is giving evidence at the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry in Pretoria on June 3, 2026.
Durban Serious Organised Crime Investigation Unit (DPCI) member Colonel Gavin Jacob has told the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry that he made the decision not to cordon off or close the crime scene at the Isipingo depot, where more than 541 kilograms of cocaine were intercepted by police.
He says he did not want to prejudice the business where the drugs were found, as it was not implicated in any criminal activity.
The cocaine was subsequently stolen in November 2021 at the Hawks’ offices in Port Shepstone.
Jacob, who was responding to evidence leader Adv Mahlape Sello, was one of the first police officers called to the Isipingo crime scene, where cocaine worth approximately R200 million was discovered.
He says he was on leave when he was called to assist with the seizure of the 541 kilogram cocaine consignment.
Jacob says he was called by Lt-Colonel Jabulani Duma, who also testified at the Commission on Tuesday.
He further told Commissioner Sesi Baloyi SC that it was his first time dealing with a container interception where drugs were seized from a container.
