Thabang Calvin Ndlovu, 25, has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for fraud after using fraudulent documents to apply for vehicle finance.

The bank approved the application, but Ndlovu failed to make any payments for the vehicle, resulting in a financial loss of R542,000.

The Hawks and the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) have welcomed the conviction and sentencing.

North West Hawks spokesperson Amogelang Malwetse says, “Reports indicated that Ndlovu submitted fraudulent documents, and his motor vehicle finance was approved by the bank. He received a vehicle which he never made any payment for since its purchase.”

Malwetse adds that the case was referred to the Klerksdorp-based Hawks’ Serious Commercial Crime Investigation unit, leading to Ndlovu’s arrest in May 2023.

“He made several court appearances until he was sentenced to 10 years direct imprisonment,” Malwetse notes.
