1 minute

Minister of Human Settlements Thembi Simelane has directed a team of officials responsible for emergency housing, to speed up the process of assisting the flood-affected households in KwaZulu Natal.

Heavy rains led to six bodies being recovered after they were washed away in Lamontville and Chatsworth in the south of Durban.

The Ugu and King Cetshwayo Districts Municipalities on the province’s south coast have also been affected.

In a statement, Simelane says a technical assessment will be accompanied by beneficiary registration.

She says this will inform the possible solutions such as rebuilding the damaged structures or relocating the affected households among others.
