Gwamanda vindicated as court drops fraud case

Former Johannesburg Mayor Kabelo Gwamanda says he is vindicated now that the state has dropped all charges against him.

The Protea Magistrate’s Court in Soweto has provisionally withdrawn Gwamanda’s case as the state failed to present the charge sheet. It was alleged that Gwamanda and a co-accused defrauded Soweto residents through a funeral policy scam.

It ran between 2011 and 2012, through Gwamanda’s then company Ithemba lama Afrika.

Gwamanda says he has always maintained his innocence.

“I think it’s a demonstration that the truth will always prevail. If you know that you are innocent, it will be proven as such. What kind of a business is taken to court without a charge sheet? And yet he’s famous for being a criminal already.”

“According to popular belief, Kabelo Gwamanda is a fraudster. But when it comes to a court of law, where fact is tested and proven, they are unable to point and locate any given point in time, where Kabelo Gwamanda had defrauded people,” adds Gwamanda.
