This summer fire season, WOF-Kishgu JV’s aerial resources effectively combated fires across the Western Cape, in January 2025 our fleet flew 166 hours supporting firefighting operations.
The Cape Winelands District Municipality says it’s continuing its firefighting efforts in Wellington and Witzenberg. Fire Services Spokesperson Jo-Anne Otto says all fires in Wellington have been contained.
However, she says there are some active flare-ups in Witzenberg.
“In Wellington, teams had their hands full late last night as a flare-up on The Doolhof threatened property. Fire and ground crews were able to prevent any damages and the fire is now under control. Farmers in the area activated aerial resources late yesterday afternoon. All fires in the Wellington area have been contained.”
“However, the ground is still very hot in places, making monitoring and mopping-up a priority. In Witzenberg, the various lines continue to smoulder and flare up in some of the very high, inaccessible areas, while several lines are still burning actively. teams are on the lines to manage the fire as and when it becomes accessible,” adds Otto.
Firefighters are still deployed to fires that have been burning for several days in Wellington in the Boland and are now also battling a blaze that broke out in the Witzenberg Valley in the Cape Winelands. pic.twitter.com/QHhPJ24E9G
