Sixteen foreign nationals suspected to be involved in illegal mining have been arrested in a farm near Waterval Boven in Mpumalanga.
The suspects aged between 18 and 40 were found in possession of gold bearing material.
Police also confiscated several generators and other equipment usually used by illegal miners.
Police spokesperson Jabu Ndubane says the suspects have also been charged for contravention of the Immigration Act. They are expected to appear in court soon.
