The Cape Winelands District Municipality’s Fire Services reports that there has been good progress with containment in some areas, while in other areas flare-ups.
Firefighters in the Cape Winelands District Municipality have had a busy night trying to put out fires in different parts of the municipality. Fire spokesperson, Jo-Anne Otto, says the fire was contained in Wellington in the Boland and that they can report making good progress in battling the blaze in Ceres in the Witzenberg Valley. Otto says the fire is still active on the mountains in Tulbagh.

On the Ceres side, there is still a small line moving toward Fairfield farm and small spots high in the mountains. Teams will continue to work the fire where it is accessible. In the mountain above Tulbagh, the fire line is still active, but moving slowly down the mountain. A new Working on Fire, CapeNature’s contractors will take over in that area this morning and will perform backburns to stop the fire from spreading,” says Otto.
