Tourists hiking in Mossel Bay
Mossel Bay in the Western Cape has emerged as one of the most popular tourist destinations in the country.
Five other Garden Route towns also made it to the top 10. Adding to this accolade was the better-than-expected festive season, which boosted the local economy and saw a larger influx of international guests.
Chief Operations Officer of Mossel Bay Tourism, Lieschke Steven-Jennings says they hosted around 1.2 million visitors over a five-week period.
‘We had a phenomenal season, the best weather that we’ve had in many years which obviously helps a lot as people do follow the sun. We got some feedback from our members, 50 percent of them are reporting it was much busier than the previous season. And then another contributing factor is our UNESCO world heritage site at Pinnacle Point. Being a world heritage site people want to come and experience it and see it for themselves.”
