The South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) in Gauteng has called on the public to stop further sharing the Zanzou nightclub material on social media.

The incident appears to show security personnel using excessive force against patrons.

Three victims have opened a case of alleged assault and sexual abuse from 2023 at the Zanzou nightclub in Pretoria.

Police are searching for eight foreign national suspects who are linked to the incident.

SAHRC Provincial Manager Zamantungwa Mbeki says the victims in this case need to be protected.

“We are urging members of the community to not further distribute this material on social media because there are victims of sexual assault and like any other victim, they need to be protected, and the further distribution of that video is in violation of their dignity. But also their family members; think because the incident happened such a long time ago, maybe they were not even expecting it.”
