Hand foot and mouth disease on a child’s feet.
The KwaZulu-Natal Health Department says the total number of confirmed hand-foot-and-mouth cases in the province now stands at 168.
In a statement, the department says that all of these cases are from primary schools and daycare centres.
The eThekwini District bears the brunt of these cases at 120. This is followed by the King Cetshwayo District at 25, the uGu District at 20 and uMkhanyakude District with 3 confirmed cases.
In all instances, the learners displayed flu-like symptoms, blisters and swollen hands.
Health MEC Nomagugu Simelane is expected to brief the media today.
