Gautrain at a station
Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi says there are promising plans to expand Gautrain routes.
Lesufi made the remarks during the National Assembly’s debate on President Cyril Ramaphosa’s State of the Nation Address (SONA) he delivered last week Thursday.
He says the rail transport system will start from Soweto to Fourways as well as Mamelodi and Springs.
He says together with the Premier of Limpopo Popi Ramathuba, they have reached a groundbreaking agreement.
They have taken a decision to build a speed train that will travel between Gauteng and Limpopo.
Lesufi adds that all that is needed now is the consultation with the Ministry of Transport, to endorse a 67-minute train from Pretoria to Limpopo.
“Gautrain will now go to Soweto, Fourways, Mamelodi, Atteridgeville, Lanseria and Springs. And during this expansion in the next five years, the government that have the honour to lead, will produce 125 000 construction jobs in the next five years. So that our people can get jobs. Myself and the Premier of Limpopo we have concluded our consultation to ensure that there is a speed train between Gauteng and Limpopo.”
