Prince Mshiyeni Memorial Hospital
The eThekwini Municipality says it is prioritising water supply challenges affecting several areas in the City, including the Prince Mshiyeni Memorial Hospital in uMlazi south of Durban.
The water woes faced by the City have left taps at the hospital running dry for almost two weeks.
Yesterday, scores of healthcare workers picketed outside the hospital.
The hospital is said to be facing a number of other challenges including overcrowding and medication shortages.
eThekwini Municipality’s spokesperson Gugu Sisilana, “The City has experienced an increase in water demand since the start of the summer season which resulted in low pressure and no water supply in critical points across supply systems. As part of a concerted effort to remedy the situation, we can confer that water started flowing at the hospital however interventions to stabilise assistance are not yet complete. A municipal operations team is on site to monitor the supply to the hospital and surrounding areas, mitigation is continuing.”
