Some emerging farmers at Thaba Nchu in the Free State say the executive order made by US President Donald Trump should not create divisions among South Africans.
Trump announced that the United States shall promote the resettlement of Afrikaner refugees to escape government-sponsored race-based discrimination, including racially discriminatory property confiscation.
His position follows President Cyril Ramaphosa’s signing of the Expropriation Act.
Emerging farmer Pheane Solomon says as farmers they face the same challenges irrespective of race. He is one of the farmers interacting with Agriculture Minister and DA leader John Steenhuisen as he conducts a agricultural blitz around the Free State.
Solomon says, “If he (Trump) says only for white people then he doesn’t cover all the farmers, if he says let’s invite all the farmers to come to sit down and speak this matter and see how to handle it. All our problem is only one, that the stock theft. That’s the biggest challenge.”
