SONA must place education within vision for growth, jobs: Gwarube

1 minute

Basic Education Minister Siviwe Gwarube says she’s eager to hear government’s plans to grow the economy and create jobs when President Cyril Ramaphosa delivers his State of the Nation Address this evening.

Ramaphosa will deliver the address at the Cape Town City Hall.

Many South Africans have outlined their expectations for the country’s future, calling for tangible solutions to the country’s economic challenges.

Gwarube was speaking outside Parliament in Cape Town during the build-up to the SONA.

“There’s a broad agreement that we do need to look at growing the economy and essentially providing jobs. And what better way to really be part of that than have the conveyer belt which is the Basic Education Sector being the ones who are providing a skillful workforce. So, I am expecting the president, tonight, to be able to articulate how education falls neatly into that kind of vision that he will be setting up for the country around growth and jobs.”
