Today marks World Cancer Day, with Deputy Health Minister Dr. Joe Phahla and Gauteng Health MEC Nomantu Nkomo-Ralehoko commemorating the day in Soweto.

The event aims to raise awareness about cancer, emphasizing the importance of regular screening for early detection and effective treatment.

A new Breast Health Clinic will officially be opened at Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Hospital. The facility is expected to enhance breast cancer detection, treatment, and research in Gauteng.

National Health spokesperson Foster Mohale says, “The 2025 World Cancer Day will be commemorated under the theme ‘United BY Unique,’ which highlights the fact that people have unique stories, unique needs, perspectives, and situations that need to be considered when shaping healthcare systems.”

Mohale adds: “The Department of Health urges people to make healthy choices such as quitting smoking, eating a healthy diet, and being physically active to reduce the risk of developing cancer.”
