Heavy storm damage leaves Emondlo community without water

2 minutes

The community of Emondlo under the Abaqulusi Local Municipality in northern KwaZulu-Natal has been left without water following a burst water pipe in the area.

On Saturday, the area was affected by a heavy storm, which affected hundreds of community members. The infrastructure was destroyed, trees were uprooted, and the supply of electricity was disrupted.

“We now get sad news that the pipe has burst, and this thing worries us a lot as we don’t have water in the area,” says one of the residents.

Another resident says, “We hope that officials will get the cause of the burst as soon as possible and we call on the municipality to make sure that they fix the problem as soon as possible.”

Meanwhile, the Mayor of Abaqulusi Local Municipality, Sfiso Mkhwanazi, says the burst occurred after yesterday’s heavy storm and strong winds.

“Water supply was severely affected at Emondlo after yesterday’s storm which destroyed the infrastructure. The non-return valves were affected. Our municipal officials have tried by all means to determine the cause of the burst and are working hard to return the situation to normal,” says Mkhwanazi.
